I won’t lie, I have a tendency to throw a bit of a pity party for myself at times. Sometimes things will be going great, and then out of nowhere they can just stop in their tracks. I just fall into a funk. I start thinking (and believing) that things are hopeless, that they’re not going to move forward or be the way that I want them to be. It’s like my engine’s stalled and I have trouble revving it to start again.
I hate being in that place.
The thing is, I try really hard to motivate and cheer others on, but it’s not always the easiest thing to do for myself. So that’s why I really love following inspirational people online, because I often feel like they say just the right things to get me going again.
Case in point: I’m a huge fan of Marie Forleo, who is among other things (writer, speaker, entrepreneur), a life and business coach. Definitely check out her site– all of her videos are awesome, but I wanted to share one in particular from her Q&A series today. The topic? What to do when life hands you a shit sandwich:
How true is everything that Marie talks about? It’s like she says, the shit sandwich that you see is one that someone else would probably gladly trade you for. Sometimes it just takes someone to tell it straight for you: stop being a jerk and start being thankful. It really shifts your perspective to what’s important and how much you really do actually already have.
So today I made a list of the things I’m thankful for and why, and it honestly made me see what I’ve been neglecting to see. I realized that it’s crazy to constantly compare myself to people who have what I perceive to be everything, when in reality I have so much more than I ever stop to allow myself to recognize.

If you find yourself in a similar funk, I challenge you to try the list. What things are you thankful for today?
P.S. Last Friday marked my 100th post!! I never really thought I’d get this far, so thank you so much to everyone who has commented and read along on this crazy journey!
